The first step is write it down as if you’ve already achieved it. And, have a specific date associated with.

Hey, Coach Dave here coming to you with another short bursts. I really wanted to talk to you about two things today. One, what areas of our lives can we have goals in? And how do we start to turn these visions, these goals into reality so that they’re real to us in our lives, and improving our lives. So first of all, what areas of our life can we have a goal in? Oh really we can have it all in, and any area of our life. So, that might be our body might be losing weight or becoming healthier, eating better, or becoming more fit. And, it could be in our relationships, our relationships with our spouse, or a friend. Or, it could be our relationships at work or in an organization.

And or, it could be a money goal. A money goal like, how to invest better? How to budget better, or how much to save, and how to save? So, it can really be in any area of our life. And then, how do we turn these goals into reality? How do we actually initiate the process of goal achievement? Well, one of the most important steps is starting to make it real by writing that down. And there’s a very specific format, it goes through several steps, but I’ll give you the first step, right now. The first step is write it down, as if you’ve already achieved it. And, have a specific date associated with it. So, let’s say it was a losing weight goal. He said, I have lost 20 pounds by the end of this year.

See, it’s already achieved. And then add a little bit of that feeling of gratitude that you’ve achieved it. I have already lost 20 pounds by the end of this year. Now, there are several more steps in writing these goals down. You may have heard of SMART goals. And, we’re going to go through what is considered to be smarter goals. Smarter goals in the next sharp bursts, so see you there! Coach Dave here, signing off.

Initiating the Goal Achievement Process

Now that we understand the importance of setting goals in various aspects of our lives, let’s dive into the process of turning these goals into reality. One of the first and most crucial steps is to write down our goals using a specific format. Follow these steps to get started:

Step 1: Write it Down as if You’ve Already Achieved It

When writing down your goals, imagine that you have already accomplished them. Use a specific date associated with your achievement. For example, if your goal is to lose weight, write it down as follows:

“I have lost 20 pounds by the end of this year.”

By phrasing your goal in this way, you are reinforcing your belief that it is attainable. This positive affirmation sets the stage for success.

Step 2: Cultivate a Sense of Gratitude

Next, add a touch of gratitude to your written goal. Imagine how you would feel after achieving it and incorporate that feeling into your statement. Continuing with our weight loss example, you may write:

“I am grateful that I have already lost 20 pounds by the end of this year.”

By expressing gratitude for your future accomplishment, you are cultivating a positive mindset and reinforcing the belief that it is within your reach.

Creating Smarter Goals

While the first steps we discussed are essential, there is more to effectively setting and achieving goals. Many experts advocate for setting “smarter” goals, which are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound, evaluated, and revised. Let’s explore these components:

A specific goal is clear and well-defined. It answers the questions: What do I want to achieve? Why is it important to me? How will I accomplish it? For example, instead of saying, “I want to be healthier,” specify your goal as, “I want to exercise for 30 minutes, five times a week, to improve my cardiovascular health.”

Measurable goals allow you to track your progress and determine if you are on the right path. In our exercise example, you can measure your goal by tracking the number of days per week you successfully complete your workouts.

Time's Essence - Achieve Your Goals with Time-Bound Deadlines - hourglass

Goals should be challenging yet attainable. Consider your capabilities and resources when setting a goal. If your ultimate aim is to run a marathon, it may be more realistic to start with smaller milestones, such as completing a 5K race.

Ensure that your goals align with your values, interests, and priorities. Setting goals that are meaningful to you will increase your motivation and commitment. For instance, if spending quality time with your family is important, setting a goal to have a weekly family game night would be relevant.

Setting a timeframe for your goals adds a sense of urgency and helps you stay focused. Establish a deadline for each goal, whether it’s a week, a month, or a year. This will provide a sense of structure and allow you to track your progress more effectively.

Evaluated and Revised

Regularly evaluate your progress towards your goals. Celebrate your achievements and identify areas for improvement. If necessary, make adjustments to your action plan to ensure continued growth and success.

Setting goals is a powerful way to transform our lives and achieve personal and professional growth. By identifying areas where we want to make improvements and following a structured process, we can turn our goals into reality. Remember to write down your goals as if you have already achieved them, infuse gratitude into your statements, and create smarter goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound, evaluated, and revised. Embrace the process, stay committed, and celebrate your accomplishments along the way. Your journey to success starts now!
